Friday Favorites

Well, I only have a few Friday Favorites this week for some reason. I swear days just fly by...I can't believe it's almost December 1st. I am in denial that my babymoon will be ending very soon. Let's not even talk about it. On to this week's faves:

1. Anne has done it again. I swear, she cranks these gems out daily, doesn't she?!?! That Little Scarf. It's lovely. I am wondering what it would look like in my Handmaiden Sea Silk?

2. Noro Kureyon Sock Yarn. Need I say more?

3. Tonight I made this wonderful dish. YUM. Great comfort food. We're also totally loving brussel sprouts right now. Stir-fried with some S&P and then I add chicken stock and simmer for a while. Another YUM.

So today is my 4th Wedding Anniversary. We got married the Sunday after Thanksgiving, so we usually celebrate it then. But we didn't this year. Today (the 30th) is the official date of our anniversary. We had a special celebration tonight (although Lovey wasn't home at the time): Satya ROLLED OVER FOR THE FIRST TIME after her nighttime massage!!! She's only going to be 12 weeks on Sunday!

My baby rocks.

Pondering

If you had the choice of designing fab patterns and dying fab colored yarn, which would you choose to do?

Yesterday, Satya and I hit two LYS, Knit Knack and The Recycled Lamb. Both are having sales, so I thought I'd start teaching Satya about obsession. Heh. I was hoping to knit with my group, but no one I knew showed up. Sniff. Oh well, I did see one of my local knitters at Recycled Lamb and want to cast on right away for the hat she was wearing! Since I didn't get to visit with my group, I consoled myself with this yarn. Elsebeth Lavold's Silky Wool. It is a blend of blue, purple, slate blue/grey. I love it. Although I am trying to staying monogamous to my current knitting project, I so desperately want to cast on for Anne Hanson's Hypotenuse. Can I just tell you how much I love Anne's patterns? I think she is brilliant. I want her brain, her ability to design and create such amazing things. I have not knit any shawls yet, but boy, she sure gives me the motivation. Anyway, I am working on Cobblestone solely, but just might have to sneak in a couple rows here and there of Hypotenuse when Lovey isn't looking.
I bought a cute little button to finish Satya's bonnet. Would have a little FO photo shoot, but she's snoring away in my lap.....hopefully tomorrow.

Black Friday Favorites

What I like about "Black Friday" is that there are zillions of people out there today, pushing and shoving and I'm sure calling names to buy that high-tech whoziwhatsit and probably spending most of the day crabby and still in a turkey-induced coma. Me, I turned on my computer, went to etsy.com, click, click, click, and I'm done buying Christmas presents and they're all unique and handmade! Yay me.

Another "Yay Me" medal I would like to accept is the "I have an almost 11 week old baby girl and I still was able to cook the entire Thanksgiving Meal, ok Lovey did the turkey, and have it on the table before midnight (7:30) and it was F-ing awesome" Award. It really was. Root vegetables, yum, mashed potatoes, yum, stuffing, yum, cranberry sauce (which I made for the first time because I thought I hated it all these years, but it was so good!), yum, green bean casserole, yum, turkey, yum, and a great pie, very yum. We had a very nice, low key, just the three of us, day. Satya decided it was a good day to sleep a lot, so that helped.

So, this is Satya feeling bored. I think a common mood for her. We have lots of tummy time, smiley time, coo-ing time, mobile time, sleepy time, and many other "times" and I swear she's still bored. I think she's a little too young to read anything Dostoyevsky, and she's having a hard time purling, so I am at a loss of what to do with her. I guess I'll just spend the time loving her and kissing her and just enjoy these last sniff five or six weeks left of my maternity leave. double sniff.

On to Friday Favorites.....

I don't have too much to share with you this week, but I want to highlight the wonderful world of Etsy. I spent a lot of time surfing the site today buying presents and wow, there is just such great stuff out there. I like the Treasury lists, because you can get great ideas for things you never thought of. Etsy also makes me want to quit my day job, learn how to sew and make all these wonderful things I have designed in my head and join the etsyworld. Doubt I'll quit my day job, but I do hope to get sewing and start creating!

Two of my FFs this week are etsy:

Yarn Chef. I actually found this site via Courtney. I really like the colorways, especially the purply ones.

larimeloom. This shop is based out of Italy. I really love the items, although some have a shocking price tag. My absolute fave is this shrug/vest thing . I am really loving it and need to get a design going in my head for something like it.

Lastly, I'd like to promote one of my local knitters, StacyZ. She is one crazy fun chick who is a fabulous photographer. She recently started her own photography business and another local knitter's kids were her subjects. I think these pictures are gorgeous. When we're ready to torment treat Satya to a photo shoot, I am definitely giving Stacy a call.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I plan to take Satya to my knitting group tomorrow afternoon if the planets are aligned. And if the planets are aligned tonight, I hope to finally cast on for Cobblestone. Right now, I think I need some pie......

I know what I'm thankful for......

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Swatching

Img_1277

This is proof that I do indeed know how to swatch. I never do it, in fact this is only the second time ever that I've swatched. But since I am making a sweater for Lovey, I wanted to make sure it was going to work. I am totally loving this yarn too! It makes great fabric, will be nice and warm and is quite sproingy. I really like it. I am looking forward to knitting the sweater. Lovey has been quite skeptical about actually receiving a sweater from me, rightfully so. I have said on many occasions that I was going to make this and that, so his skepticism has motivated me to finally follow through. I told him that I'd start knitting it on Thanksgiving Day. That gives me three full days to do whatever I want, or need to do, and there's a lot! I want to finish my second Hedera (for some reason it took me two weeks to knit the first one, so I don't know why I think I can get the second one done by Thursday, but whatever....), finish up Satya's Matinee Coat, seam and knit the skirt to the Tilted Duster, and lord knows what else. So with all this I want to do, naturally what did I do yesterday? I cast on for a little cute bonnet for Satya. I didn't say I was going to start the Cobblestone at 6am on Thursday......it might turn into Friday.........
Yesterday, Satya and I went to visit Posh's new digs. It's a great space and I'm loving the couches! It was Satya's first LYS experience, and definitely not her last. We met up with Lisa at the shop and had a very nice visit. It is so exciting to hear all the news about her daughter, Sylvie and her upcoming trip to China to meet her! Fortunately for me, Lisa had her camera and took this picture of Satya and I. This is one of very few pics I actually have of the two of us because I am usually the one behind the camera! We have to work on that......

Friday Favorites

Wow this week flew by way too fast. It's been a tiring week. Satya has been a little Miss Crankypants for the past few days, sometimes, I swear it's like dealing with a schizophrenic, let's make that a narcoleptic schizophrenic. I think that's more exhausting than the lack of sleep. We were sleeping really well last week, like 10 hours with just a little 20 minute snacking after 5 or 7 hours. But now we're back to two, sometimes three, feedings at night. She will sleep about 4 hours the first stretch, so that's not too bad. I think we're pretty lucky, I know there are many newborns that don't sleep well for a long time, so I'll stop complaining.
We went to the pediatrician this week for Satya's two month checkup. Guess how much the babe weighs?!?! She has almost DOUBLED her birth weight. Nuts! Mama has some good milk, I guess! In fact, very often I feel like Allegra's All-U-Can-Eat Buffet! I feel very blessed that she's so healthy.

On to Friday Favorites:

1. Facebook. This is so addictive. I have found tons of people that I've lost touch with over the years, it's great! But do I really need yet another time-suck website?

2. I love this blanket. So snuggly. Perfect for this time of year.

3. Pookeh. I'm liking this shop a lot. Especially the rings. I like Sandra's blog as well.

4. I am loving Tsonga shoes! Lovey bought me a pair of sweet Mary Janes, that hopefully I'll get a picture of with a pair of Silk Garden socks one of these days...... (once I finish my Hederas...halfway there!)

5. Isn't this Owl Pennant adorable?

6. Woo Hoo! The pattern is up!

7. Thank goodness for this mobile. It buys me a shower. It plays Bach, Beethoven and Mozart too! Quite poorly, but at least it's something!

8. Last, but definitely not least, Anne's absolutely brilliant shawl in honor of the Ravens.

Thanks to everyone who gave me baby sling/wrap advice. I finally went with a Zolowear cotton pouch. I absolutely love it! It fits well, and evenly distributes the baby's weight, and has a pocket! I definitely would recommend this to mamas-to-be.

Have a great weekend!

Lest you think I've forgotten how.....

You Know You're Parents When...

your big Friday Night Out is a trip to Babies R Us. Heh. No Friday Favorites this week, I don't have enough fun stuff to share.

Have a great weekend!

Baby Slings

ETA: Thank you all for your advice! We're going to go to Boulder this afternoon and there is a shop that sells Moby Wraps. That seems to be the fave, and it looks cozy and comfy!

Help me. I'm frustrated. I am in search of the perfect baby sling. I have a newborn Maya Wrap, which is great, but Satya is growing out of it (!!) I was given a Hotsling, but it's too small and doesn't seem safe. I ordered a sling from Karmababy, but it was too big and I didn't like the feel of the fabric. I returned that, and ordered a sling from Mamma's Milk, but I plan on returning that one as well because it sucks. Can you say Allegra's a pain in the ass?? I would be happy to order another Maya wrap, but I don't like the ring on the bigger ones and I hear that they just had a problem with a ring breaking. So, hmmm. Also, I don't like the Baby Bjorn because supposedly they are not good for the baby's hips.

So mamas, give me advice, please!
